If there’s one color that goes perfectly with the festive season it is red. It’s bright, warm and inviting, and it brings a bold touch of color to add joy to a dull day. But red can be difficult to incorporate into your home decor. Let’s face it, there aren’t many homebuilders out there who would paint a room red for a model home display. But it can work. Here are just a few ways you can brighten up your home decorations with this bold color this winter.

Dining Table

The winter holiday season is when most of us have family and friends who descend on us, sometimes from all over the country, to enjoy a home cooked meal and a lot of shared memories. So why not add a winter warmer touch to your dining table?

Choose a holiday red tablecloth for a clean festive base on which to set all your delightful place settings. Build up the color with some red napkins or even some red candle holders or centerpieces. Keep your plates and cutlery white or cream, so that it stands out and helps to break up the red for a fresh look. However, if you can get red wine glasses or other decorative red glasses, this could add a special touch of glamor to your festive table.

Living Room

Bringing a touch of color into your living room in the winter will add warmth for a cozy feel where you know everyone is going to want to hang out and relax after their big tasty meal. If you have neutral home decor you can add red cushions quite easily without disturbing the overall style of your room. A couple of comfy red cushions on your couch will also go well with a stylish red woollen blanket or throw to help bring the room together.

If you can work it, then a red wall can look stylishly sophisticated, as long as you don’t go overboard with the rest of the red accessories. One wall painted red, if your room is large enough, can work well with natural wooden furniture and neutral colored furnishings. For a glamorous look, you can add a little sparkle with a chandelier and some mirrored furnishings, which will give it an air of artsy Parisian glamor.

Kitchen

It can be easy to spice up your kitchen with a touch of red. If you’re looking for a simple way to add some color without doing much work then you can add in some vibrant red appliances. You don’t have to go all out. Adding a shiny red toaster with matching kettle will add enough color to brighten up your room and bring the festive spirit into your cooking. For an even easier, but no less effective, solution you can simply add decorative bowls of red fruit to the center of your island or kitchen table. Or give your holiday cooking a boost by using red pots and pans. If you can have them on display in your kitchen, even better!
